Inspiring True StoriesDreams are coming true as cord blood banking is starting to make the news now. On March 11 a little toddler, Dallas Hextell made a guest appearance on the Today Show. His miraculous story is one that will shape the way that people view cord blood banking forever.
Before Dallas was the age of two years old he was unable to crawl or sit up, which is what babies struggle to do at this age. He was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy. In an effort to save Dallas from this paralyzing condition they elected to undergo an experimental treatment that used cord blood that his parents banked when he was born. The outcome for Dallas was a success and now he is walking, balancing, and living a normal life.
It’s important to warn people that the use of cord blood is still in experimental stages and there is no guarantee that a child can be saved from a disease or condition just because the parents elect to bank the cord blood. But hope comes quickly when you see people like Dallas who can walk today because of one simple choice.
Cerebral Palsy is a disability that affects the motor skills and is caused by brain damage. Those who are affected by Cerebral Palsy include babies who are born prematurely, drprived of oxygen anytime during gestation or at birth, or if there was an infection in the amniotic fluid.
